XPENG Robotics raises $900M+ at a $6.3B+ valuation

This is the biggest investor story of the day. XPENG’s robotics business raised more than $900 million in its first external financing, led by IDG Capital with participation from Gaorong Ventures and strategic backing from Tencent and Alibaba. XPENG says it is the largest single private financing ever in China’s embodied-AI sector. The capital will fund Physical AI models, robotics hardware/software, manufacturing capacity, data generation, and global commercialization of the IRON humanoid robot. XPENG will retain control of the unit.

Investor takeaway: The deal establishes a substantial standalone valuation benchmark for vertically integrated humanoid-robotics businesses. More importantly, investors are underwriting the combination of AI models + proprietary hardware + manufacturing, rather than software-only robotics plays. With XPENG targeting mass production, the sector is increasingly moving from R&D valuations toward industrial-scale commercialization.
