USX-1 Defiant

In March 2025, the USX-1 Defiant, a 180-foot-long, 240-metric-ton medium USV, was observed near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. Developed under DARPA’s No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) program, this vessel is designed to operate without onboard crew, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce vulnerabilities. Sea trials are scheduled for spring 2025.
