Unitree IPO demand signals a major repricing of humanoid robotics

China’s Unitree Robotics is preparing for its Shanghai STAR Market debut after raising approximately RMB 6.1 billion (~$905M) by selling just 10% of the company. The offering reportedly attracted retail demand exceeding 8,000× the available allocation, a STAR Market record. Unitree’s IPO price of RMB150.80 implies roughly a $9B valuation, while private-market indications suggest investors are assigning substantial premiums ahead of trading.

PE/VC takeaway: This is potentially the most important autonomy valuation event of August. Unitree establishes a public-market benchmark for late-stage companies including Figure AI, Agility Robotics, Apptronik, AgiBot, LimX Dynamics and other physical-AI platforms. It also demonstrates that investors may currently reward hardware + embodied AI companies at valuations traditionally associated with high-growth software.

The caution is valuation discipline: Unitree’s offering implies roughly 219× 2025 earnings, despite the commercial humanoid market still being early.
