Uncrewed Fighter Jets

The U.S. Air Force has designated two drone prototypes as the first-ever uncrewed fighter jets, marking a significant milestone in military aviation. The General Atomics XQ-67A combat drone has been named YFQ-42A, and Anduril Industries’ craft has been dubbed YFQ-44A. These collaborative combat aircraft are designed to operate alongside crewed fighters like the F-22 and F-35, as well as perform missions autonomously. This initiative is part of the Air Force’s Next-Generation Air Dominance program, aiming to develop a hybrid fleet of crewed and uncrewed aircraft.
