Reporting published around August 8 also detailed Uber’s plan to introduce Lucid Gravity-based autonomous vehicles using Nuro’s self-driving system in the San Francisco Bay Area during 2026.
The vehicles are six-passenger electric SUVs designed to support both urban trips and longer regional journeys. Uber ultimately wants autonomous ride services operating in 28 cities by 2028.
San Francisco is particularly important because it is already one of the world’s densest real-world laboratories for autonomous transportation, with Waymo and Zoox operating alongside conventional ride-hailing, transit, cyclists and pedestrians.
