Uber Eats + Zipline autonomous drone delivery moves toward broader U.S. city rollout

Coverage on August 28 highlighted the recently announced Uber Eats–Zipline partnership, which plans to introduce autonomous food delivery initially in existing Zipline operating markets and eventually expand into dozens of U.S. cities

Zipline’s P2 system allows a larger autonomous aircraft to remain airborne while a smaller delivery unit lowers packages to a specific drop location. The companies are targeting a long-term scale approaching 1 million deliveries per day by the end of 2029

Why it matters: Drone delivery may become the first form of autonomous aviation that urban residents interact with daily, potentially building the regulatory infrastructure and public acceptance necessary for later passenger UAM.

The broader implication is that logistics may establish the urban air network before air taxis do.
