REGENT disclosed details August 20 about deploying its uncrewed Squire Seaglider during the U.S. Navy’s Silent Swarm experimentation exercise.
The trials occurred in Michigan in July and explored how the high-speed wing-in-ground-effect platform could support Navy missions. REGENT’s seagliders operate from the water, transition onto hydrofoils and ultimately fly just above the ocean surface.
Why it matters: Seagliders occupy an unusual position between autonomous aircraft and autonomous vessels. Potential military missions could include distributed logistics, ISR, communications relay and rapid resupply, particularly across dispersed Indo-Pacific operating areas.
