A major August 8 report highlighted Milton Keynes, U.K., where Starship Technologies’ six-wheeled autonomous robots have become part of everyday grocery delivery. The robots navigate sidewalks using cameras, sensors, AI-based localization and mapping, traveling at roughly 6.5 km/h while avoiding pedestrians, street furniture and other obstacles.
Starship’s network has now completed nearly two million deliveries across about 20 U.K. cities, including Milton Keynes, Leeds, Manchester and Cambridge.
Why it matters for cities: This is no longer just a university-campus experiment. Autonomous delivery is beginning to operate as part of the urban logistics infrastructure, particularly for short-distance grocery and convenience deliveries.
