Joby Aviation is acquiring Resonant Sciences for $500 million

Joby announced today that it plans to buy Resonant Sciences, an Ohio-based defense technology company with roughly 250 employees and expertise in radomes, antennas, stealth-related design and aircraft testing. Resonant will become a dedicated defense business inside Joby. 
Why it matters: Joby is evolving from a commercial eVTOL company into a broader aerospace-and-defense technology platform. That matters for autonomy because Joby has already flown an autonomous VTOL demonstrator with L3Harris, and Resonant gives it cleared personnel, defense infrastructure and engineering capabilities that could accelerate classified autonomous-aircraft programs.
