High-Visibility Clothing and Vehicle Sensors

A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the U.S. has found that high-visibility jackets and reflective materials, intended to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists, may actually render them less visible to modern car safety systems. Autonomous emergency braking systems in certain vehicles failed to detect mannequins wearing reflective gear, raising concerns about the effectiveness of these systems in real-world scenarios.
