Harpoon Ventures reportedly closed a new $155 million fund targeting national-security technologies including autonomous submarines, drones, resilient navigation and advanced cryptography.
The firm is also building its Black Flag accelerator to connect early-stage companies with organizations such as Palantir and In-Q-Tel.
Investor insight: This is not a company funding round, but it represents meaningful new dry powder for the autonomous-systems ecosystem.
Harpoon’s military-operator network could give it an advantage in:
- Identifying technologies aligned with operational requirements
- Helping startups navigate government procurement
- Connecting portfolio companies with defense primes
- Evaluating whether demonstrations can transition into funded programs
The risk is that defense-focused funds may increasingly compete for a relatively narrow pool of startups with credible technology, security clearances, manufacturing capability and program access.
