Drone/attack risk for tankers resurges — recent incident off Turkey

A Russian-flagged tanker carrying sunflower oil reported a drone-attack off the Turkish coast. The ship’s crew was unharmed, but the incident raises renewed concern about the vulnerability of commercial vessels to drone / unmanned-system attacks in contested maritime zones.

Relatedly, after naval drone strikes on two other tankers in the Black Sea, shipping-insurance rates for vessels operating in that region have increased, reflecting growing risk premiums for transit through contested waterways.
