Canadian research initiative targets longer-endurance autonomous drones

A new partnership announced today brings together:

  • Concordia University’s Volt-Age research program
  • Volatus Aerospace
  • Energy technology researchers

The collaboration will focus on:

  • next-generation power systems,
  • battery technologies,
  • energy management, and
  • extending endurance for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). 

Why it matters
Energy remains one of the biggest constraints on autonomous aviation. Improvements in power management directly translate into:

  • longer ISR missions,
  • greater cargo capability,
  • reduced logistics burden, and
  • improved military drone effectiveness.
