Baltic Sea Munitions Recovery

In northern Germany’s Bay of Lübeck, specialized teams have initiated a large-scale project to retrieve World War II-era munitions from the seafloor using underwater vehicles. Funded with €100 million by the German government, this effort aims to mitigate environmental hazards caused by rusting explosives seeping toxins into the marine ecosystem. The project focuses on developing automated systems for efficient munitions clearance, potentially setting a precedent for global underwater disposal efforts.
