Anduril Industries was reported to be in advanced negotiations with Tradepoint Atlantic to establish an unmanned surface vessel manufacturing and testing operation at the former Sparrows Point shipyard in Baltimore County, Maryland. The potential investment could reach hundreds of millions of dollars, although a final lease had not yet been signed.
The 3,300-acre waterfront site offers deep-water access and proximity to Washington, D.C., the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard facilities, and the broader Mid-Atlantic defense-industrial base. Maryland officials were reportedly involved in discussions over possible state incentives.
Why it matters: This would move autonomous naval vessels further toward high-rate domestic manufacturing, rather than limited prototype production. It could also turn the Baltimore region into an important maritime-autonomy cluster involving shipbuilding, software, sensors, payload integration, testing, and sustainment.
