Alphabet’s Waymo Expands Autonomous Driving Operations

Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving division, has been rapidly expanding its autonomous ride-hailing services. As of January 2025, Waymo operates in four major U.S. cities—Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin—completing over 150,000 self-driving taxi rides weekly. Plans are underway to launch services in Atlanta later this year. Analysts project that Waymo could log one billion self-driving miles by 2030, driven by improved safety records and advancements in artificial intelligence.
